Description of classroom
Ms. White’s classroom layout is just basic and similar to other classrooms. The student’s desks are put together in groups. When you walk in your in front of the classroom right away there is a group of desk close to the door of 6 students. At the front of the classroom is the chalkboards and a chair for Ms. White to sit in while in front of the class. Her chair is located right in front of another group of desk. This cluster of desk is where the students who struggle or are distractions are seated. As you walk towards the side near the windows there is another group of 3 students. I do not like the location of these students; they seem to be easily forgotten about and these are the students who can zone out easily and need to be kept on track. I am still unsure why Ms. White has these students located there. If this were my classroom I would not have my students arranged to be sitting like that. As you move to the back there is a rug for the classroom and it is surrounded on two sides bookshelves of books that is divided by genre. In the back of the classroom there is one computer and the teachers desk. One student is located close to the teacher’s desk who is a troublemaker and he sits by himself. I feel like this is where he needs to sit in terms of staying out of trouble but in terms of learning he zones out and doesn’t participate. Ms. White would rather him sit in the back and let him do whatever he wants instead of trying to engage him in the lessons. One wall within the classroom is all closets, which I think is great. All the students are able to put their belongings in there and then shut the doors. There is also extra room for Ms. White to put her belongings and things in class, which helps, in terms of room within the classroom.
I feel that this layout does work for this class overall. There is no layout that will work out perfectly for every students and the classroom. Majority of the students work well with this layout and it helps the students stay on track. This layout I feel also works well with Ms. White she can keep an eye on all the students individually as well as a group. In my future classroom I feel this layout is something I would consider, besides the one problem I stated earlier about certain students.
