Description of classroom
Ms. Hehirs classroom layout is similar to other classrooms. There are 4 groups of desk and two students are separated and sit individually for behavioural reasons. When you walk into the class there is a group of four students. To the right of their table is another group of 4 students who are right next to the blackboard that does not get used. If you go to the left when you walk into the room you will see two more groups of tables, four students at each group. In the front of the room there is a rug where the class will meet. There is a white board in the front of the rug and a chair next to it for Ms. Hehir to sit in. There is also a book shelve in front of the rug and also to the left of the rug. The bookshelves are organized by reading level and also some are organized by genre. Right behind the book shelve is where Ms. Hehirs desk is along with a sink. To the right of Ms. Hehirs desk there are another two desk where one student sits who becomes easily distracted and needs to be separated. In the back left corner of the room in where the computer is located and the closet where the students keep their belonging. Along the back wall is where there are other closets that Ms. Hehir keeps her things, such as supplies.
The arrangement for Ms. Hehirs class is something that took a lot of thought. There are so many difficult students, but there is not enough room to have that many students sit individually. I feel Ms. Hehir used the space of her room to the best of its ability. We have actually discussed making the tables into three desks instead of two to decrease the amount of discussions and distractions. The one thing I find to be very difficult within this classroom is the closet. It is way to small for the class and it caused so much havoc when unpacking, packing and going to lunch. Other then that I did not see much wrong with the classroom set up. The bookshelves are very organized and it makes it very easy for the students to find certain books they may be interested in.
